A generally uninteresting blog about the goings on in my life.
Love ridden I have looked at you
With the focus I gave to my birthday candles
I’ve wished on the lidded blue flames
Under your brow
And baby I wished for you
Nobody sees when you are lying in your bed
And I wanna crawl in with you
But I cry instead
I want your warm
But it will only make me colder when it’s over
So I can’t tonight, baby
No, not “baby” anymore, if I need you
I’ll just use your simple name
Only kisses on the cheek from now on
And in a little while, we’ll only have to wave
My hand won’t hold you down no more
The path is clear to follow through
I stood too long in the way of the door
And now I’m giving up on you
No, not “baby” anymore, if I need you
I’ll just use your simple name
Only kisses on the cheek from now on
And in a little while, we’ll only have to wave
No, not “baby” anymore, if I need you
I’ll just use your simple name
Only kisses on the cheek from now on
And in a little while, we’ll only have to wave
Firstly, I love this song and Fiona Apple in general.
Secondly, this is a great example of something that I’ve never heard anyone else mention. With a lot of people (especially people really into music), when they like find a new band/singer they like they get protective and silly. The best example I can remember is when The Offspring got into the charts with “Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)”. Several of my friends were fans, and they all got silly and angry about other people liking one of their songs, especially one as rubbish as that. The irony in this of course is that ‘Smash’ is *still* the biggest selling independent album of all time in the US - they were already a huge band, but my friends just didn’t realise.
Anyway, my point is this: when I see an act I like getting recognition, I feel a strange sense of pride. I don’t know if it’s because of the reinforcement that I’ve made a good choice, or if it’s because of my own musical tenancies that seeing someone on my team is winning makes me happy. I don’t really care either way, it’s a good feeling and I love it.
So yeah: Fiona Apple. Listen, enjoy.
my favorite fiona apple songs.
