A generally uninteresting blog about the goings on in my life.
this has nothing to do with godsgirls, porn, or hot women.
But I have to say that when you put “21 years sober” in your profile that is so insulting. Just because you have had the priveledge to live to 21 and not become addicted to or use a substance does not make you noble.
Calling yourself…
This is, without a doubt, one of the most hilariously ridiculous things I’ve read in a long time. It’s particularly hilarious as there’s actually a noble sentiment at the heart of it - it’s just incredibly misguided.
‘Sober’ does not, and never will mean “to be a recovering addict”. That’s just one context it can be used in. Generally, it simply means “not intoxicated” - so to say you’ve been sober for 21 years at 21 if you’ve never drunk/smoked/ingested/snorted/injected some kind of intoxicating substance if a perfectly reasonable use of the word. It also means being serious, rational or subdued, showing self-control… basically all the things the idiot posting ^that^ was lacking at the time.
Studies show that almost 50% of people will suffer from some form of mental illness during their life - incidentally, that’s a perfect example of a sobering thought - yet people use the words “crazy”, “nuts” and “mad” etc. all the time without offending anyone. That’s despite them actually being used inappropriately to make light of a huge array of serious conditions. The reason no one gets offended? Because any rationally thinking adult realises that they’re nothing more than words; simple verbal attempts to describe complex things.
The quoted post is just silly. The word “sober” is used correctly - in fact it’s more appropriately used in that context than when used to describe someone’s abstinence from some a substance they have an addiction to. Firstly, if you’re going to write rants on the internet, do it about something you actually understand. Secondly, just don’t bother ranting on the internet. Life is too short to waste time getting in a tizzy over someone using a word in a way you don’t like.
Thirdly, yes I know this post is verging on hypocrisy. I don’t fucking care. Let’s call it post-irony and quietly move along.
This is, without a doubt, one of the most hilariously ridiculous things I’ve read...a long...
actually made my day!
